Bikepacking events and other races
Bikepacking
Bikepacking is my favourite discipline of cycling. It's brutally difficult to compete at a high level due to the amount of time needed to spend in the saddle and lack of sleep. Finishing in a good time is more about maximising moving time and minimising stopping time than anything else. Gear selection involves selecting as little kit as possible while still being safe, so sleeping kit differs massively depending on the weather forecast. An incredible adventure is possible in just a few days, which is great if time is limited. Here are some of the routes and events I've taken part in.
Cyclocross racing
I've really enjoyed racing cyclocross for the last few winters - it's a great community and a good activity for the kids too. I managed to win the North Wales cyclocross leage in 22-23 and 23-24. There's nothing like a bike race in terms of intensity - it's a great way to stay motivated through the winter
MTB racing
I've recently started racing XC and got a 3rd and 1st place in the open category in the Welsh XC championship. Really tough events!
