Every inch of the way
"A challenge that tested Tom to his limit but in return gave him more than he could ever have imagined.”
- Bear Grylls
“Every Inch of the Way is a great page turning adventure which is as close as you can get, without actually saddling up and pedalling yourself into the unknown. It takes real magic to turn a great adventure, into a great book. For one thing, most people can't relate to the mindset of the long distance cyclist and I found myself laughing along to Tom's thoughts and observations, wondering if they were in - jokes, shared by those who had seen the world at the speed of a bike, for example his relationship with Serbia's stray dogs! . But his anecdotes have a great balance of the cultures and places, as opposed to just inward reflections, so I am sure would be enjoyed by anyone with an interest in travel and human experience. A lovely story, written from the heart.”
- Mark Beaumont (around the world record breaking cyclist, author and adventurer)

This book is the full story of my bike ride around the world; through Europe, Asia and the USA. Each night on my ride I kept a detailed diary of the day that had just passed. It wasn't easy and sometimes, after a particularly long and tiring day, felt like a real chore. What was important was that my whole trip was recorded on paper. The diary made it possible to write this book, which doesn't just describe what it is like to ride a bike a long way. It does do that, but it also describes the people I met, the places I say, the landscapes I passed, the challenges I faced, the problems I encountered and the food I ate, as well as much more.
Before I set off on my trip, I read books about people's rides, which inspired me to go on my own adventure. I hope mine can do the same.
Wonderful Adventure, Ordinary Guy makes Extraordinary Trip around the World
I loved every page turn of Every Inch of the Way, a real adventure. Tom Bruce, an ordinary everyday guy proves that even though we live in modern times, good old fashioned adventures are still possible. My favourite sections of the book were travelling the Pamir Highway, the high mountain passes, the travel through Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan - it took me back to my childhood, reading my Grandmother's National Geographic magazines as a child in the 1960s.
Simply Life Changing!
Reading this book has been a life changing experience. As someone that enjoys cycling, I had previously heard about bicycle touring. But never thought that it would be something I would be able to do. Tom proves that we are all capable of doing something like this, the only limit is our imagination. For those who are sitting on the fence, read the book, pack your bike and live life to the fullest! Remember, the journey of a thousand miles (or in Toms case 14,379 miles) starts with a single step.
Fascinating
I'm sure I will never do a journey like this, however I felt I was on the journey reading this book. This is the best cycling adventure book that I have read.
A breath of fresh air
This cycling travel book is a real breath of fresh air. From the moment I picked it up and started reading the introductory pages about Tom's motivation and his approach to the trip and writing about it, I was hooked. The writing is very direct and engaging, it just draws you in, so you feel you are perched on his panniers, looking at the world he travels across not just through his eyes, but almost as if you are there yourself.
A great read
I have read several books by round the world cyclist and this is probably the best. This is partly due to the unusual route he chooses, visiting the republics of the former Soviet Union and partly to his simple, honest writing style. a great read
